About Us

Welcome to Little Rock Township Cemetery

Little Rock Township occupies the 6-mile (9.7 km) square (with the southeast corner nipped off by the Fox River) in Kendall County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 13,076 and it contained 4,723 housing units. Little Rock is named after Little Rock Creek, which flows through the  township.  The largest settlement in the township is the city of Plano, from where the township is administered.

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 35.46 square miles (91.8 km2), of which 35.25 square miles (91.3 km2) (or 99.41%) is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 km2) (or 0.59%) is water. U.S. Route 34 runs east to west through the township.

The township  is governed by an elected Town Board of a Supervisor and four Trustees.   The Township also has an elected Assessor, Clerk, and Highway  Commissioner.

Township and other units of local  government are regulated by provisions of Article VII, Sec. 8 of the  1970 Illinois Constitution which states, in part, these governments  “shall have only powers granted by law.”  In the late 1800’s, John F.  Dillon a Supreme Court Justice in Iowa, developed this legal principle,  which is known as Dillon’s Rule.  In plain English it means that if  there is no statute permitting a township or road district (or official)  to perform a function or service, the government or official may not  carry out that function regardless of how much it’s needed or wanted.   If the statues are silent (do not mention) regarding a particular power  or function, it does not exist.  If the power doesn’t exist, the  government (or official) may not perform the service.

The Annual Schedule of Meetings is posted at the front gate at the Little Rock Township Cemetery office. The Agendas are also posted at the front gate, at least 48 hours prior to every meeting.

Available for viewing, at the cemetery office,  are the Little Rock Township Cemetery Meeting Minutes, along with the local compensation package of each employee  having a total compensation package in excess of $66,000.

The Cemetery budget amount for 2017-2018 is $107,341.22.
